While I am all for all sorts of ideas to make the life of a pirate more interesting I believe it is even more important to make sure that it is worth the risk for high-sec dwellers in Eve to venture into low-sec. What has always bothered me the most in Eve is the fact that it is possible to spend your entire Eve-career without even leaving high-sec and earn lots of ISK in the process. The risk associated with Low-Sec ...more »
This is not specifically about Low-sec, but how to make mining a safer activity. -This might improve a miner's chances in low-sec. -Make all of these Miner's defenses 'illegal' to use in war in high-sec, just as it is illegal to use capital ships for war in High-sec. (If you do so, your capital ship or mining ship gets moved to low-sec). -These special mining ships may also only be available to those who join the ...more »

I envision a "drake", in a gas cloud, armed to the teeth with 6 missile launchers(hams, hml or assault), 1 bonused mining laser of appropriate type and a core probe launcher.
Mids are filled with epic tank and a point.
lows are 3 bcu's.
dronebay is filled with shieldbots.
There's 10 of them in that cloud. And in comes the pirates.
In low sec only the gates going into high sec should be guarded by weak Concord ships that can be destroyed by a coordinated corp. These weak concord ships should drop tags and components that are rare in low sec. Replacement concord ships along with reinforcements will after enough time has elapsed for salvage. So after salvage pirates should leave the system asap. Concord reinforcements will remain in system for 30 ...more »
Today all asteroid mats that are in lowsec are also in nullsec, where alliances can collect them in sov-protected relative safety. If some mid-level mats were removed from nullsec that would greatly increase the value of time spent mining in lowsec, which I think would have many interesting consequences.
