Reduce GCC timers to 5 minutes

GCC and timers should be immediate and short term penalties, not long term time-sinks that cripple pilots from moving around for a quarter of an hour.

  1. Risk and reward. Part of the risk is stopping from moving around as much while the reward includes items and isk and satisfaction. Piracy should be no small measure.

  2. Why penalize pvp in losec?

  3. From Spectre3353's blog

    http://evenewb.blogspot.com/2010/07/revamping-lowsec.html

The purpose of the sentries and GCC should be to provide an immediate response to aggression by the sentry guns. Forcing many of the pilots in lowsec to spend a majority of their night waiting out a counter in the corner of their screen, long after the battle is over, is simply unnecessary and bad design. Additionally, anyone who wants to try and argue that it is part of the punishment for piracy and unchecked aggression, you might want to note that these things are already punished by loss of security status, loss of access to highsec (which is absolutely huge) and a disadvantage in combat in any location where sentry guns are present.

  4. Could it be a graduated thing?

    0.4: 9 minutes

    0.3: 7 minutes

    0.2: 5 minutes

    0.1: 3 minutes

    etc?

  5. Or how about simply adding a significant reaction time to gate guns, so that pilots in frigates can warp onto a gate an jump before the guns realise they're there.

The main point of contention isn't jumping into hi-sec - it's of moving between systems in low-sec, so make the guns slower to react to new pilots on grid would avoid this problem so a certain extent.

  6. If you make it easier to gank any unsuspecting player in lowsec you'll find that players would be less likely to venture into lowsec than they are now.

  7. ...so the idea would be to make 0.4 space safer than 0.1 space.

  8. I like the idea of gradualy increasing GCC timers with the systems sec status, as posted by serpentine

  9. I agree with Commander Phoenix that a flat reduction is a bad idea. But I like the other variations. It might get sort of complicated but some combination of factors could increase the GCC. Like, your first offense in a 0.1 system where all you do is attack someone's ship -- 3 minutes. Your 10th kill in 10 minutes, and it's a pod, and you're -10 already, and you're in a 0.4 system -- full 15 minutes.

  10. This doesn't address the real issue of low sec for me. The issue is to get more people out to low sec. I don't think anyone is avoiding low sec because of the GCC timer.

    So, -1

  11. i like the idea of GCC variation between system sec. itll add a difference between 0.4 and 0.1. and the actual idea is good, so a +1

  12. 3 minutes should be long enough. Beyond that you are no longer protecting anyone you are just trying to be annoying.

  13. tbh the gcc is a non-issue for me. After ganking one two peeps I simply rat/ scan system and/or carry on doing what ever it was I was doing before they came. When roaming - same thing - belt hopping with gcc has provided me many an unexpected bs or faction frigate.

So might as well not be there for all the good/bad it does. Often I simply finish the mission of the unsuspecting victim. :)

  14. I think Taz17mania hit the nail on the head.

Reducing the GCC may make low sec more fun for people already there, but are people avoiding low sec because of the GCC timer? I dont think so.

Doesnt mean I dont like the idea because it will make PvP more fun, but will it solve the low sec problem?

I do like Serpentine Logic's scaling suggestion though if it works to make 0.1 for hazardous than 0.4 for instance.
